CCA vs CCS vs Pure Copper: How to Identify USB Cable Wire Materials

Learn the difference between CCA, CCS, and pure copper USB cable materials, and why conductor choice matters for B2B cable buyers.

OEM Cable Factory with Pure Copper inside

A practical guide for importers and distributors to understand cable conductor materials before placing bulk USB cable orders.

When sourcing USB cables in bulk, conductor material is one of the most important details for importers, wholesalers, distributors, and private label brands.
From the outside, many cables look similar. But inside the cable, CCA, CCS, and pure copper can perform very differently.
What Is CCA?
CCA means copper-clad aluminum. It has an aluminum core with a copper layer on the outside. It is usually lower in cost, but its conductivity and durability are not the same as pure copper.
What Is CCS?
CCS means copper-clad steel. It has a steel core with a copper layer. It may be stronger in structure, but it is not ideal for high-performance charging cables because steel has higher resistance than copper.
What Is Pure Copper?
Pure copper has better conductivity and is more suitable for stable charging performance. For fast charging cables, pure copper is usually preferred because it helps reduce voltage drop and heat generation.
Can a Burn Test Identify Cable Materials?
A lighter burn test can be used as a quick factory screening method.
CCA may soften like wax when burned.
CCS may create sparks.
Pure copper may show oxide flakes falling naturally.
However, this is only a quick check. For final quality control, buyers should also check conductor structure, resistance, voltage drop, charging performance, and temperature rise.
What B2B Buyers Should Confirm
Before placing bulk USB cable orders, buyers should confirm:
  • Cable conductor material
  • Wire structure
  • Cable current rating
  • Charging power
  • Voltage drop
  • Connector quality
  • Packaging requirements
  • OEM logo and label details

Watch: Cable Material Burn Test

In this factory video, Lirui compares three common USB cable conductor materials: CCA, CCS, and pure copper.
A simple burn test can help buyers see visible material differences:
  • CCA may soften like wax when burned.
  • CCS may create sparks during burning.
  • Pure copper may show oxide flakes falling naturally.

This burn test is only a quick screening method. It cannot replace full cable quality control.
For bulk USB cable orders, importers and distributors should also check conductor structure, resistance, voltage drop, charging performance, temperature rise, connector quality, and packaging details.
